About Isabel

Portrait of Isabel Wolf

Dear viewers and lovers of art,

I hope you’ve enjoyed my work, at least enough that you’ve taken the time to read about the artist behind it.

Art has always been a part of my life. As a toddler, I was scribbling away with crayons. As a 5th grader, I was drawing dragons from my favorite book series. As a middle schooler, I was learning basic color theory and multiple mediums. As a high schooler, I was working on my AP Drawing portfolio. As a college student, I continued to create, push myself, and experiment—despite pursuing other subjects in my formal education. Art has remained a part of my life; it is my way of connecting to my community and the world around me.

Viewer, I am sure you have observed a pattern in my subject matter. Did you notice all the birds? They seem to be a common theme for me. My avian companions in life and in spirit. Corvids have a special place in my heart; I adore them for all their curiosity, ingenuity, and love of life. While I draw inspiration from many things, birds may forever be my muse.

In my experience, creativity is both the hardest and most natural thing in the world. Art blocks, creativity slumps, temporary regressions in skill are all a part of the overall process; in the long run, these things that feel like setbacks are beneficial. Skill building and learning aren’t linear; treating them as such is a recipe for disappointment. So embrace it! Embrace the annoying setbacks, the terrible doodles, the failed experiments.

“When you love the challenge, you are never disappointed.”
